Meditation

Do you know that peaceful feeling you have when you first wake up? Not after a nightmare, and not when awoken by a noise or alarm clock, but just waking up on your own after a restful sleep. It lasts for just a moment before the thoughts of life flood in, but that peace is achievable for more than just one fleeting moment every once in awhile.

That is the peace that comes with meditation. By silencing the mind on purpose at least once per day. It centers you and brings more awareness throughout your waking hours. Give yourself an uninterrupted few minutes per day to sit silently with eyes closed and just pay all of your attention to your breath…in and out.

If there are too many thoughts that just won't stop, play some slow-paced classical or rhythmic music that has no words. It seems like it wouldn't accomplish much, but the health and mind effects are incredible.

Taking yourself to that calm, still state once per day will become as necessary and beneficial as showering or brushing your teeth. But instead of body cleansing, it's both mind and soul cleansing. You'll wonder how you got along for so long without it.
